Even so, red drum and speckled trout remain active, particularly during the cooler morning hours before the day’s weather intensifies.

Red Drum Moving Into the Backwaters

Captain Mike reports that redfish have pushed farther into the protected backwaters where they are feeding heavily on shrimp and finger mullet. These calmer areas are providing fish with both food and shelter from the wind-driven conditions. Anglers targeting shallow marshes and protected shorelines are finding the most consistent action.

Target Wind-Blown Points

One of Captain Mike’s most productive patterns this week has been fishing wind-blown points during a falling tide. Wind naturally concentrates baitfish and shrimp along these shorelines, creating ideal ambush points for hungry red drum and speckled trout. The past week it has rained and been very windy. The water is slightly muddled up and storms are predicted through Saturday. The redfish have moved up in the backwater feeding on shrimp and mullet. Even though the conditions are not perfect the fish have been active in the morning hours . Fishing the wind blown points have been best for me on a falling tide. Take your kids fishing !
