Redfish Schools Packing the Flats: June 1 Topsail Fishing Report
The arrival of June brings an incredible shift to the local waters, proving that early summer is one of the most exciting times to fish the North Carolina coast. According to the latest June 1 Topsail Fishing Report, Captain Mike Hoffman indicates that the inshore bite has been remarkably good over the last few days. This strong activity comes as a welcome relief to local anglers after a grueling stretch where three consecutive weather fronts invaded the region. Now that the atmospheric pressure is stabilizing, the fish are responding aggressively across Hampstead, Sneads Ferry, and the surrounding waters.
Schools of Redfish Invade the Bays
The standout highlight of the June 1 Topsail Fishing Report is the sheer volume of fish grouping up in the shallows. The recent onslaught of cold fronts initially threatened to disrupt the seasonal patterns, but it actually seems to have pushed the fish into predictable zones. Captain Mike reports that Topsail Island currently has lots of schools of redfish holding tightly in the backwater bays and shallow flats. Despite the partly cloudy skies and a light breeze creating choppy water conditions, these large schools are highly visible to an experienced eye, making for an action-packed day on the water.
Adjusting Tactics for the Outgoing Tide | June 1 Topsail Fishing Report
When weather patterns shift rapidly, adapting your presentation is the secret to success. While artificial lures were dominating the flats a couple of weeks ago, the recent fronts have changed the preferences of the resident fish. Captain Mike notes that live bait has been working much better for him since the atmospheric disruptions passed through. Presenting live mud minnows or finger mullet during the outgoing tide is drawing consistent strikes from both Red Drum and Black Drum. This live-bait approach provides the scent and natural movement needed to convince wary fish to bite when the water gets a little restless.
Secure Your Summer Charter Experience
With summer vacationers beginning to flood the beaches of North Topsail Beach and Surf City, the demand for premium Topsail fishing charters is reaching its seasonal peak. The conditions detailed in this report show that the fish are hungry, patterned, and waiting in the flats of the Intracoastal and New River ecosystems. If you want to experience world-class sight-casting to schooling drums, acting quickly is essential. As always, Captain Mike Hoffman reminds families visiting the coast to make lasting memories on the water: remember to take your kids fishing!

The inshore bit has been good the last few days after 3 fronts that invaded the area. Topsail island had lots of schools of redfish in the bays and flats. Live bait is working better for me since the fronts came through.
