Spring Transition: Captain Mike Hoffman April 1 2026 Report

April has officially arrived, and the inshore action in North Carolina is heating up alongside the rising temperatures. According to the Captain Mike Hoffman April 1 2026 fishing report, we are witnessing a major seasonal shift. The fish that spent the winter hunkered down in the back creeks are finally making their move toward the sounds and the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW). This migration, combined with beautiful sunny skies, makes it a premier time for inshore enthusiasts.

The Big Move: Red Drum and Rising Temps

The headline for the Captain Mike Hoffman April 1 2026 update is the convergence of different fish populations. “The fish have left the creeks and have joined the over-slot fish that are moving in from the ocean,” Mike reports. This creates a target-rich environment for anglers in North Topsail Beach and Sneads Ferry. A major factor driving this activity is the warming water; temperatures have hit a solid 64°F this week, which has kickstarted the metabolism of these Red Drum.

Bait and Stealth Tactics

With the warming water comes the arrival of forage. The Captain Mike Hoffman April 1 2026 report notes that schools of mullet are now abundant and easy to find. If you are fishing with live bait, these mullets are the “go-to” choice. However, if you prefer artificial lures, a technical approach is required. “Use a light weight lure because the fish are still a bit spooky,” Mike advises. Because these fish haven’t fully settled into their spring patterns yet, they can be paranoid in clear water. Interestingly, a bit of wind can actually help mask your approach, making the fish less skittish than they are on dead-calm days.

Sight-Casting and Family Fun | Captain Mike Hoffman April 1 2026 Fishing Report

The outgoing tide is currently offering prime sight-casting opportunities as fish move off the shallow shelves and into the channels. Seeing a wake from an over-slot Red Drum in the spring sunshine is a thrill that every angler should experience. As emphasized in the Captain Mike Hoffman April 1 2026 report, this is the perfect season to “Take your kids fishing!” The weather is comfortable, the fish are active, and the memories made on the water last a lifetime.

The spring run is just beginning to peak. Whether you are navigating the flats of Topsail Beach or the creeks of Sneads Ferry, the insights from the Captain Mike Hoffman April 1 2026 report provide the roadmap for a successful April outing.
