Topsail Inshore Report: Rain Can’t Stop the Flounder and Grouper Bite!

Captain: Lee Parsons

Report Date: July 8, 2025

In this latest Topsail fishing report, Captain Lee Parsons of Gottafly Guide Service shares the details of a successful, albeit challenging, Friday on the inshore waters of North Topsail Beach. The day began with a light breeze under overcast skies, creating comfortable conditions for his new clients visiting from other parts of North Carolina. The fishing was initially slow, requiring patience as Captain Lee expertly navigated the brackish, outgoing tide. He methodically worked through several productive spots that make Topsail Island a premier fishing destination, emphasizing that persistence is often the most important tool on any charter. The group’s determination was about to be rewarded in an unexpected and exciting way.

The real action ignited just as a summer shower started to fall. While less experienced anglers might head for the docks, Captain Lee knew this change in weather could be the exact trigger the fish were waiting for. It was as if the rain hitting the water’s surface acted as a dinner bell. Using proven bottom-fishing techniques with fresh, appealing bait, the crew stayed on the water and fished right through the downpour. Their efforts paid off handsomely with some quality flounder and several feisty red grouper that gave them a great fight. Catching fish is always the goal, but catching them when conditions turn is what makes for a truly memorable trip. This adventure serves as a great reminder that a little rain doesn’t have to slow down the action. Sometimes, it’s the very thing that turns a slow day into a fantastic one, creating another great Topsail fishing report for everyone aboard.

“Friday on the water with new clients from north carolina. A little tough fishing but we got it done with some nice fish. Right when the rain hit , the fish started to should, but a little rain did not slow them down, we fished right through it.”
