Topsail Report: Redfish & Flounder Biting on Outgoing Tides!
Captain: Mike Hoffman
Report Date: August 1, 2025
This week’s Topsail inshore fishing report is loaded with good news for anglers targeting redfish and flounder. Captain Mike Hoffman reports that sunny skies and outgoing tides are creating excellent conditions for both species. The fish are active and feeding, providing great opportunities all around the waters of North Topsail Beach.
Redfish Action Along the Marshes
The redfish bite has been particularly strong during the early morning and late afternoon hours. Look for them patrolling the marsh edges and foraging around oyster beds. Anglers are having great success sight-casting to schools in the clear water. For bait, live mullet and shrimp are getting the job done, while artificial enthusiasts should throw topwater plugs at dawn or switch to soft plastics as the day progresses.
Flounder Near Structure
Flounder fishing is also very promising right now. The best spots have been around the inshore reefs and near the mouths of creeks where they can ambush baitfish. A Carolina-rigged live finger mullet or mud minnow is a can’t-miss technique. If you prefer using artificials, jigging with soft plastics in the deeper holes near structure is also producing quality catches. As always, be sure to check the latest weather and adhere to all local fishing regulations for size and bag limits.
